Rights & Responsibilities of Mississippi Cyclists
In Mississippi, bicyclists have similar rights and duties as motorists. They must obey traffic signals and stay to the right side of the road, must use hand signals to indicate their intended maneuvers, and must have proper lighting on the front and back of their bikes to improve visibility.
Motorists are also responsible for safely sharing the road with bicycles. Under the John Paul Frerer Bicycle Safety Act of 2010, they must give cyclists at least a yard of space when passing. Drivers must also be aware of their surroundings and must follow all traffic laws. When they don’t, cyclists may be seriously injured.
Ask a Jackson Bicycle Accident Attorney
In a perfect world, people would take responsibility for their actions, particularly when they cause harm to others. Insurance companies would give fair and timely payouts so injured bicyclists could recover. Unfortunately, that rarely happens. It takes experience and persistence to secure a fair settlement or award after a serious bicycle accident, and we are prepared to deliver.
